CrimeStoppers Moves to 19 Action News

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND, OHIO (WOIO) - 19 Action News is now the official Crime Stoppers station with a partnership that includes expanded newscast segments focusing on local crime, continued use of the highly successful Wheel of Justice, and a new weekly program airing on both WOIO CBS 19 and WUAB My 43 TV.

Warrant Unit, a locally produced crime reality show, will air each Saturday on CBS 19 at 11:35 pm, and Sundays on WUAB MY 43 at 1:30 pm. The producers of the program work hand-in-hand with Cleveland Police and other local police departments, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department, the U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland office of the FBI.  Viewers will learn about unsolved local crimes and the program features profiles of fugitives at large.  The show is hosted by WTAM radio personality Bob Frantz and also features appearances from local law enforcement including Cuyahoga County Sheriff Bob Reid and local homicide detectives. Warrant Unit debuts on Saturday, December 12 on WOIO CBS 19 and Sunday, December 13 on WUAB My43.

In addition to the airing of Warrant Unit, CrimeStoppers cases will be featured in 19 Action News newscasts.

"We're proud to become the official CrimeStoppers station." Dan Salamone, News Director for 19 Action News comments. "Our Wheel of Justice already has an 80% capture rate, and the weekly stories and 30 minute show will also get results."

Cuyahoga County Sheriff agrees adding that "Last year CrimeStoppers contributed to 385 felony arrests, and with the help of 19 Action News, we expect to do even better next year." Adds WOIO/WUAB Vice President and General Manager Bill Applegate, "Television is a powerful weapon in the war on local crime and we feel that this partnership is perfect for all involved - especially Northeast Ohio residents who are affected by crime."

CrimeStoppers corporate sponsor Tom Ganley from the Ganley Automotive Group adds, "Viewers always remain anonymous and they make CrimeStoppers work. We are excited to that Channel 19 and CHannel 43 are bringing increased attention to the effort."

And Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson agrees saying "in violent unsolved crimes we know that someone saw something. Someone heart something, someone knows something.
