Pink Slips: Cleveland Clinic to announce layoffs

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Cleveland Clinic announced Tuesday they will be eliminating 200 full time positions.

The employees will be notified this week.

Those being laid-off work in a number of different positions including secretaries, nurses and administration.

The Clinic is still hiring 500 people in other areas of the system. If one of the laid-off workers can fill an open position, they are allowed to apply for that job.

Since last year, due to budget the Clinic left 600 positions that were vacant unfilled.

The Cleveland Clinic employees 43,000 people.

The Clinic released this statement following Tuesday's announcement:

"Cleveland Clinic is committed to providing the highest quality of care in the most efficient way. Any impact on jobs is very difficult and we are encouraging affected employees to apply for hundreds of open positions across the organization. This is a result of consolidating programs to drive higher quality outcomes for our patients."
