Regular customer donates kidney to waitress

CLEVELAND - A long-time waitress with diabetes is recovering today after she got a kidney from one of her regular customers.

The Barbara Rector, 57, met her donor Don Bedwell while working at Manchu Wok at the Ohio Turnpike plaza in Amherst.

Bedwell is an engineer from Indiana who works in Cleveland. He made weekly trips home, stopping at Rector's restaurant to have lunch.

The two talked often and when Rector said she was ill, Bedwell offered to help by donating his kidney.

He was a perfect match and the operation, done this week at the Cleveland Clinic was a success.
