Bill Applegate has run some of the nation's biggest TV stations and newsrooms, from New York to Los Angeles, in more than 30 years as a broadcast journalist and executive.

Unlike most General Managers, who tend to have background in sales, Bill started his career in news, as a newspaper reporter in his native Fort Wayne, Indiana.  In the 1970's, Bill switched to TV.  He worked as an anchor and reporter in Detroit and Los Angeles before moving into management as News Director in Buffalo, Boston and San Francisco.

Bill spent 10 years with the ABC television network, first as News Director at WLS-TV in Chicago and later as News Director and Station Manager at WABC-TV in New York.  Recruited by the CBS network in 1990, Bill became Vice President and General Manager of WBBM-TV in Chicago and 3 years later was moved to Los Angeles as Vice President and General Manager of KCBS-TV.  Bill joined Raycom Media in 1996 and has successfully managed three Raycom television properties arriving at his current post in Cleveland in January of 2001.

Bill and his wife, Katherine, have four children and reside in Lakewood, Ohio.
