ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - After over a decade behind bars, a former Lorain Head Start bus driver is a free woman.

Lorain County Judge James Burge has overturned the conviction of Nancy Smith.

Smith was convicted in 1994 of delivering school children to Joseph Allen for sex and was sentenced to 30-90 years in prison.

With Wednesday's acquittal, new charges cannot be filed.

Judge Burge said he had no confidence in the 1994 verdict and added that much of the evidence used to convict the pair was coached and would not be admissible in a court of law today.

Smith has always maintained her innocence. She spent a total of 15-years in prison.

Allen also had his conviction overturned.
