Beleaguered County Commissioner and Democratic Party boss Jimmy Dimora is not only arrogant in the face of a federal corruption probe but he is also downright audacious. In a blustery rant this week, the rotund former janitor blamed the Bush administration for targeting him and other prominent democrats in the probe in order to keep them from rounding up votes for Barack Obama in last November's election.
The very prospect of a Republican administration actually trying to win Cuyahoga County is hilarious enough but Dimora goes on laughably to accuse the feds of picking on him because he is Italian and because he is fat. "I'm not an angel", he said, "but i'm not a crook. I have not done anything that any other public official hasn't done".
It remains to be seen if Dimora will be indicted for receiving money and favors in exchange for county contracts as the investigation would appear to allege. But if he is...that quote about not doing anything that every other public official in the county hasn't done, may constitute his epitaph.
