(WOIO) - It's difficult to remember when the political atmosphere in Washington was anymore partisan and divisive than it is today and there are signs that the American people are getting fed up with the result.

A recent rasmussen poll shows that three-quarters of the nation's voters are "angry" at the federal government and its policies. And the poll shows that voters are upset with both parties. Nearly two-thirds - 60% - agreed with the statement that neither Republican political leaders nor Democratic political leaders have a good understanding of what is needed today.

In fact, what may be needed if Congress is to free itself of these partisan political log jams is term limits. A great many states and municipalities have enacted term limits for governors and mayors and the time has come, it seems to us, for a national conversation about term limits for members of the house and the senate. A spring cleaning every few years in Washington might do wonders for the health of the nation.
