CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - More than a few leprechauns were seen around the streets of Cleveland this past St. Paddy's Day, but it was Cleveland's favorite leprechaun who was making the most mischief on Wednesday from a lectern in Washington, DC.
We're talking, of course, about Dennis Kucinich - he of the high principles and lofty aspirations. Kucinich who considers himself a Progressive Liberal has long supported and argued for the public option in any national health care overhaul.
He has been passionate about demanding a European-style socialized medical system for this country and he has stubbornly refused to support any kind of compromise including the current Obamacare plan.
But on St. Paddy's Day, Kucinich revealed the true strength of his scruples by caving in and agreeing to support the president's plan just hours after accepting a ride from the president on that fancy Air Force One. To justify his flip-flop, the Congressman lectured us about how he had Crohn's Disease and as a youth had lived in 21 different places including a couple of cars, where, we are to presume, health care was at the very least inaccessible. He gave all kinds of reasons for sacrificing his principles. But sacrifice them he did and are any of us really surprised?
