(WOIO) - The Obama health care plan, approved by The House last weekend, contains some worthwhile reforms but soon all Americans will learn that those reforms come with a price.

Taxes will increase for most of us and regardless of what the politicians say, so will your premiums.  But almost as troubling as the totality of this bill is, is the way in which it was passed by the Democratic majority.  Not in any political observer's memory has there been on display - for all to see - every manner of political bribe, naked threats, broken promises and wondrous lies employed to get the bill over the finish line.

The biggest lie of all was told by the White House to Representative Bart Stupak of Michigan and then afterwards by Stupak to his supporters. Stupak, you may recall, had vowed to vote no on the bill because of language in the Senate version allowing federal money for abortion.   The White House whipped-up an executive order promising federal money would not be used for abortion. Everyone in Washington, including Stupak, knows the promise isn't worth the paper it's printed on. An executive order isn't law and - furthermore - it can always be rescinded by this or any future president. Yep, getting this health care bill passed was sordid business indeed, they just hope we don't remember it come November.
