CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - You would think the county prosecutor's office would be a place for putting bad guys behind bars but it appears Bill Mason's office is also a place to run for political office.
Cleveland attorney Annette Butler, who ran against Mason in 2008 and spent more than 20 years working in the U.S. Attorney's office, says that she can't believe Mason's office is a virtual political who's who. "It seems to me we need more transparency and accountability. You can't have that when one person controls all that political power in this county," said Butler.
So 19 Action News reporter Scott Taylor poured over hundreds of records found that 13% of Mason's employees hold some type of political office.
Sources also told our Scott Taylor that some on Mason's own staff believe if you're not politically involved you won't get promoted.
19 Action News caught up with Mason and his response, "It is what it is. This office and every office around the country breeds new leaders and there is nothing wrong with that."
