CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - I am David Briggs responding to Bill Applegate's recent Editorial about the end of multiculturalism.

"Become American First" the end of multiculturalism? Like it or not Bill, our country is multicultural. And to suggest that it should end begs the question, "What then?" White, English-speaking Christians only? This intolerance of those different from you sounds racist, xenophobic, and is entirely un-American.

Our country's history has been one of tolerance and acceptance and that is what has led to bilingual signs, not political correctness. Yes, German Chancellor Merkel stated that multiculturalism has failed there. She also said, "We feel tied to Christian values. Those who don't accept them don't have a place here". Since when was our country one religion? Is that what we want here? I sincerely hope not.

Early American immigrants from Europe forced native Americans to become English-speaking Christians and most lost everything of their culture. English-only was wrong then and it's wrong now. Stop fanning the flames of anti-immigration and try to be more tolerant and accepting of people from other cultures. That would be American.

Thank you.
