CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The state of Ohio, like much of the nation, went Republican in last week's election but Cuyahoga County trapped in some political version of the movie "Groundhog Day" just keeps re-living it's past.

Despite the corruption investigation of the last two years which has focused squarely on the long-ruling Democratic party machine voters in the county last Tuesday did what they always do, mindlessly pulled the lever for the Democratic candidate for County Executive Ed FitzGerald.

And if you think I'm being harsh when I say mindless listen to this the Republican candidate for County Executive Matt Dolan got fewer votes than did suspended Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Bridget McCafferty who was running for re-election despite being indicted in the corruption probe. 125,000 voters thought re-electing her was just fine with them. How's that for mindless voting?

Well, we can only hope that FitzGerald, currently the Mayor of Lakewood, turns out to be a different variety of Democrat than Dimora, Russo and the rest of the scoundrels, who with patronage and cronyism, made the county their own private playground. Since we are unable to vote for change, we are left only to hope for it.

Write and let me now what you think. I'm Bill Applegate.
