CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A former MetroHealth Medical Center executive was sentenced in federal court Wednesday.

John Carroll was sentenced to nine years in prison. He was found guilty of bribery in the Cuyahoga County Corruption Investigation.

Prosecutors say he took bribes from the East West Construction Company in return for awarding contracts to favored construction companies.

The sentence was reduced dramatically because of Carroll's cooperation with the government investigation. He could have faced more than 20 years behind bars.

He must also pay $728,000 in restitution.
