CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - I'm Josh Helman, fellow citizen and social work grad student at Cleveland State University.

As Ohio prepares to set its yearly budget, many of our elected officials want to cut funding for vital human services. We all have a family member or neighbor who depends on such services.  The statistics are staggering.

The 2009 census for Cuyahoga County reports that one in four children under the age of five are living below poverty. Crain's Cleveland last month reported that one-in-ten Ohioans are looking for work and this does not account for the thousands of people working below a sustainable living wage. A 40% increase in hunger services provided to suburban neighborhoods shows that this is an epidemic.

Please write or email Governor Kasich and your local state representative and encourage them to support funds to keep Ohio functioning.  We must act now to prevent further cuts or I fear that we will pay double later in crime, in increased homelessness, and malnutrition… collateral damages that we cannot afford

Thank-You!
