Why Volunteer for a Research Study & What to Expect as a Research Volunteer:
As a volunteer in a clinical study, you are participating in the development of medical therapies---therapies that may offer better treatments and even cures for chronic diseases. People volunteer to participate in a clinical study for a number of reasons. You may want to get involved because you are suffering from a disease and are looking to improve your health, or you may want to help advance science. If you do not have health insurance, clinical studies are a way to receive study-related medical care at no cost.
Once you have decided to enroll into a study and you have scheduled your first visit, you will be met by our friendly staff that will guide you through your participation. You will read very detailed study information in an informed consent and will have all of your questions answered by a member of our clinical team. You will also have a discussion with our Research Physician to determine whether or not the study is right for you based on your medical history. It's important that you share your history and current medication use with the team. You will receive a physical examination and may have various testing performed depending on the requirements of the specific study in which you are a participant. This testing may include laboratory testing, electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG), mammograms, ultrasounds, and various other specialty testing. Once it has been determined that you are an eligible candidate, you will receive study medication at no cost to you. You will return to the office for follow up visits with our clinical team as indicated in the informed consent. During your participation, you will receive copies of any testing that is performed as part of the study. Many study volunteers appreciate the medical attention that they receive when they participate. As a volunteer, you have the right to leave your study at any time and for any reason.
