Hidden costs of the Cleveland Strangler case

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

19 Action News continues to follow the trial of the Cleveland Strangler and we've uncovered big hidden costs in the case, one that's already setting records for what it's costing taxpayers.

Forget all the big money that attorneys and experts are getting 19 Action News reporter Ed Gallek found this case actually picking your pocket on a daily basis.

Almost every action at the Justice Center adds to the court costs. Records from the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts show the total so far is already $4,300.00 and counting.

Testing and crime scene experts are also adding to the bill, upwards of $600,000.

Fees for everything from the judge making entries after rulings...to subpeonas of witnesses to fees for attorney filings.

The fees are set by the state for all court cases.

If Sowell gets convicted he gets the bill and of course just because he might get the bill doesn't mean he can pay it.

So in the end, you could be on the hook for this too.

Anthony Sowell could go to death row if convicted of killing 11 women.
