HURON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The Highway Patrol is investigating fatal crash that happened on U.S. 6 in Huron Township, approximately1.5 miles west of Huron. The crash involved a 2004 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster and a 2006 Ford F-250 Friday around 4:46 p.m.

A 2004 Harley Davidson, driven by Richard Jenkins, age 55, of Huron, was eastbound on U.S. 6 and failed to slow safely for traffic that was slowing ahead of him. Jenkins lost control of his motorcycle and went left of center and struck a 2006 Ford F-250 driven by Charles Hensel, age 71, of Huron.

The motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. Jenkins was transported to Firelands Hospital and pronounced deceased. Hensel sustained minor injuries and refused medical care.

Both the motorcycle and truck sustained severe damage and were both towed from the scene. Huron Fire and EMS assisted on scene. U.S. 6 was closed for approximately 2 hours which resulted in numerous traffic back-ups.

The Erie County Sheriff's Department and Huron Police, and Perkins Police assisted with traffic control around the area.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash and the investigation is still continuing.
