
Indians claim Jason Rice off waiversThe Indians claimed relief pitcher Jason Rice off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and optioned him to AAA Columbus.
Rice, 25, appeared in 44 games with AAA Pawtucket in 2011, going 4-5 with 4 saves and a 3.69 ERA.
The Los Angeles native was recently acquired by Oakland on August 31 in a trade that sent Conor Jackson to the Red Sox.
Rice was an 11th round pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2005 and selected by Boston in the Triple-A phase of the 2008 Rule V Draft.
To create room on the 40-man roster, Carlos Carrasco has been transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day disabled list.
