St. Vincent de Paul is handing out 1000 baskets to local families in need.

St. Vincent de Paul says with the number of American's living in poverty at an all time high of 49.1 million, many local families are not sure where their next meal will come from.

St. Vincent de Paul, Cincinnati's Edyth and Carl Linder Choice Food Pantry have seen a 50 percent increase in the number of visits since 2008.

Thanks to donations, more than 2,500 local families in need will be able to provide their family with a Thanksgiving meal. St. Vincent de Paul will be handing out 1000 baskets at the Society's Outreach Center at 1125 Bank Street on Tuesday, November 22.

"We are grateful to the individuals, churches, businesses and other organizations who are willing to share their blessings and provide meals to families who reach out to us for help," said Liz Carter, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul. "This is the fourth Thanksgiving since the economy crashed and we hear the frustration from many people who struggle to provide even basic necessities for their families. Donors to our Thanksgiving distribution not only give the joy of sharing a holiday meal, but they also give them the hope of knowing somebody understands their struggle and truly cares."

The distribution begins at 9 a.m. but they expect families to begin lining up at least three hours early.
