If your New Year's resolution was to lose weight, you're in luck!

19 Action News just got our hands on a list of the best diets.

Not a big fan of fad diets but the dash diet is different.

"Finally! we're seeing some diets promoted that actually have scientific weight and research behind them," said Lisa Cimperman, University Hospitals Nutritionist.

US News and World Report ranks the dash diet the #1 best and healthiest diet plan.
 
"DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stopping Hypertension," said Lisa Cimperman, University Hospitals Nutritionist.

It makes sense because it was actually developed to fight high blood pressure and cholesterol.

"A diet that's actually going to help you improve your health and keep your weight off," said Lisa Cimperman, University Hospitals Nutritionist.

It's rich in vitamins, low in salt, sugar and fat...

The DASH diet gives you guidelines for eating more:

  • fruits and vegetables
  • grains
  • limited lean protein
  • only occasional alcohol and sweets

"By making these changes you're going to be cutting out all of those junk foods fast foods and high calorie foods that pack on the pounds," said Lisa Cimperman, University Hospitals Nutritionist.

Weight Watchers was a very close number two to the DASH diet.
The Mediterranean Diet was third.
