Lawyers file motion to have Jimmy Dimora released from jail pending sentencing, second trial

Lawyers for convicted County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora want him released from jail.

They filed a motion Tuesday asking for his release pending sentencing and his second trial on new charges.

Dimora was convicted earlier this month on all but one of the 34 charges against him.

In their motion, his lawyers say the government's only reason for holding Dimora is a fear he will flee the country. They want a hearing and say they will present witnesses who will testify to his lifelong ties to Cleveland, proving he is unlikely to flee.

The motion suggests that Dimora is willing to be placed on house arrest. No date has been set for a hearing.
