Public Square Crackdown: Cops target jaywalking

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Police are targeting a huge problem in Public Square -- jaywalking!

Wednesday night a team of officers staked out some of the corners around Public Square. They were looking for folks walking outside of cross walks -- especially in front of cars.

The fines were $150 and add on another $45 if you fight it in court and pay court costs. This comes as the new downtown casino is getting ready to open in the area.

Police just beefed up the number of downtown officers and downtown cops have gotten much of the panhandling under control. Many believe much of this is tied to getting ready for the new casino.
