HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -
Bond was set on Thursday for a Hamilton man accused of killing a 4-month-old.
Bond was set at $1-million for Steven James Haley.
Police say Haley was responsible for an incident that took the life of 4-month-old James Smith.
Back in late February, medics were called to a home on Springvale Drive to help with a baby boy who was unresponsive.
Police reports at the time said upon arrival crews found the baby had "visible signs of injury."
They did not say where the injuries were located on the infant's body.
During a 911 call the male caller said, "We've got a 4-month-old and he's not responding, like he's gasping. My girlfriend says he's in respiratory distress." The woman in the background said, "Tell them to please hurry."
Later in the call the man said, "He just woke up and just started crying like screaming for like 30 minutes. I changed his diaper and put him back in the crib. He's not breathing." The woman then began CPR on the infant.
Police aren't saying anything more about the circumstances of the killing.
According to the police report the baby was transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.
He was later moved to Children's Hospital in Corryville where he died, according to the Hamilton County Coroner's Office.
Since the baby died in Cincinnati, the Hamilton County Coroner's Office took up the case, and said James Smith's manner of death was homicide.
On Wednesday, the Butler County Grand Jury returned an indictment, charging Haley with Murder and Child Endangering.
