Hearings begin for Fairfield Township Fire Chief

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Disciplinary hearings began for the Fairfield Township Fire Chief on Monday.

David Downie was placed on administrative leave after allegations that he verbally confronted another township supervisor. He is accused of several confrontations with other department heads and elected officials following an ice storm in January. Township officials are also accusing him of creating a hostile work environment.

Fairfield Township trustees will now decided if Downie will be suspended or allowed to keep his job. Downie has held the position as Fairfield Township Fire Chief for 25 years.

At least forty firefighters have signed a petition saying they want Downie to stay on as chief.

The hearings are expected to continue on Tuesday.
