Willard teen charged with attempted murder

WILLARD, OH (WOIO) -

The 16-year-old Willard teen accused of shooting his mother in the back has been charged with attempted murder.

According to the Willard Police Department, the shooting happened at the family's home located at 23 Main Street around 11:30 a.m.

After the shooting, the teen fled the scene while the mother, Melissa Mason called 911. She was transported to Willard Mercy Hospital and later Life-Flighted to St. Vincent's in Toledo, Ohio where she is listed in good condition.

Willard Schools, the library and city park were placed on lock down for several hours while multiple agencies searched for the teen. Two hours later, officers located the teen inside a home on West Pearl Street. The teen attempted to allude officers with a fake name, but was recognized by an officer as the teen suspect. He was taken into custody without incident.

There is no word on a motive at this time.
