A two-year-old Ashtabula boy is in the Pediatric ICU at Rainbow Babies after apparently being badly beaten.

The child is in the intensive care unit of Rainbow Children's Hospital in Cleveland.

Ashtabula City Police say the incident was reported around 7:15 p.m. Monday.

Police say the toddler was discovered by his mom, 18-year old Kimberly Furman, who told 19 Action News reporter Scott Taylor he had bruises and abrasions after she woke up Monday afternoon from working a night shift.

The toddler lives with his mother and her boyfriend and now Ashtabula Police are investigating it as a possible case of child abuse.

The boy's father, Shane Klein, is aware of the incident and his mom is shocked.

"He had bruises and abrasions all over his head," said Grandmother Mary Joe Klien.

The little boy is expected to recover from his injuries.
