Former New York Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens was acquitted this week on charges that he lied to Congress about using steroids.  It was the second big profile loss for federal prosecutors in weeks.  The other being the ill-advised prosecution of John Edwards and like the Edwards case, Clemens should never have been prosecuted in the first place.

Doesn't the federal government have more to worry about these days than spending millions of taxpayer dollars trying to prove that a baseball player lied to Congress? And furthermore, if Congress is so concerned about the use of steroids in baseball, why don't they go after the league?

It seems to me that the owners and the teams ought to be responsible for making sure their players don't cheat. Why does Congress need to be involved in that issue?

Write and let me know what you think.  I'm Bill Applegate.
