(WOIO) -

In what is shaping up as one of the nastiest presidential campaigns in memory there is at least one new tactic in use that ought to be prohibited. In some hotly contested congressional districts, including Ohio's 16th District, democrats have begun surreptitiously filming the homes of their republican opponents.

Ohio Representative Jim Renacci said a neighbor informed him that a photographer was crouching around in the bushes taking footage of the first term congressman's home. Now, both sides have for years used what are called trackers, they are staffers employed to video tape every public appearance by an opponent. But photographing private homes is something altogether new.

The intent of this tactic, apparently, is to try and show that these rich republicans live in expensive homes and therefore can't possibly relate to average voters. And, those doing the taping say the videos are fair game. Well, we say foul.

Write and let me know what you think. I'm Bill Applegate.
