CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A suspect in multiple homicides in southern Michigan took his own life when confronted by U.S. Marshals.

38-year-old Thomas Fritz was found dead early Wednesday morning with a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Cleveland police got a tip that Fritz may be headed to Cleveland because his ex-girlfriend's mother lives in the area.

Over the weekend, Amy Merrill and Lisa Gritzmaker were shot to death. Gritzmaker was pregnant. Their mother was also wounded, but survived.

Police have charged 38-year-old Fritz with the crimes.

Fritz is a decorated war veteran, and served in Iraq during Desert Storm.

After returning from his service overseas, Fritz served a year in prison for sexual battery.
