FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -
Police are now investigating the death of Joseph William Oakley, 19, as a murder. An autopsy revealed that Oakley had been shot in the head multiple times.
Investigators say the body was found Thursday morning in a creek near the Creekside Apartments off Brookfield Drive. The body was discovered at about 7 a.m. by a worker at the apartment complex.
"He was very sensitive and caring," said Nichole Fields, Oakley's cousin. Fields says her cousin was very close to his family, especially his grandmother. Oakley stayed with his grandmother off and on.
"He couldn't walk through the house without asking my grandmother, 'Grandma, do you need me to do something, do you need me to take the plate for you, do you need anything?'" said Fields. "He was very caring and such a grandma's boy."
Oakley's family is holding a candle light vigil on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the area around 5001 Pleasant Ave, where Joseph was found.
It's the same creek where Chelsea Johnson, 15, was found stabbed to death in April of this year. Investigators do not believe the two cases are related.
