DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND (WOIO) -

19 Action News has learned of a new firestorm over traffic cameras in Cleveland.

An internal memo shows City Hall is considering adding more.  The memo asks city council members for 5 areas in their wards they would suggest for the cameras.  The city says it's all just talk now--exploring ideas.  The contract for the company that runs the cameras will expire soon, so the city is simply looking at whether it should add cameras or move them around more.

Nothing will be decided for months, and council would have to approve any changes.  Still Councilman Zack Reed is already speaking out -- calling instead for more neighborhood surveillance cameras to fight crime.
