Missing boy, 4, found dead in Franklin Twp. pond

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Authorities say the body of a 4-year-old boy was found floating in a pond on Monday afternoon.

Authorities say Jonah Smith was reported missing around 1 p.m. by his father. Authorities searched the area around his home which is located in the 8800 block of Cam Drive.

The Warren County Sheriff's Office and several fire and EMS personnel were searching when Smith's body was found floating in a nearby pond at 2:25 p.m.

Residents on Cam Drive say the pond in the rock quarry is easily accessible at the end of the street and is very dangerous for everyone. "If you fell in, it's straight in and the water is really really cold and it's really really deep and you couldn't get to the side," said Yvonne Patrick, resident. "So that little boy really didn't have a chance."

His body was taken to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Lab for an autopsy.

This case remains under investigation.
