‘Shots for Tots’ offering immunizations for little, no cost

Posted: Updated:

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - ‘Shots for Tots' is a program offered by the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. The program offers immunization shots to newborns all the way up to the age of 18 for little to no money.

The program's goal is to boost immunization rates for children in Lucas County by 2 percent every year until they reach 90 percent.

The program holds clinics around the city offering shots for $10 for people with private insurance. People with Medicade or Paramount insurance pay nothing.

Nurses said they have seen a steady flow of children but expect things to pick up even more within the next week

"We're expecting to see more children around exclusion day because the kids can't go back to school unless they have the required shots. The goal is to try to eradicate these kinds of diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, polio, Vercelli, so that the kids don't get infected with these diseases," said Nurse Shynell Jones.

There are two clinics Thursday at Flower Hospital.
