Cleveland Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting on the city's west side.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday at West 97th and Lorain.

Police say the suspect, Roy Rudisill, Jr, called police around 7:30 p.m. rambling, and claimed his family member was a cop.  During the phone call, Rudisill stated that when police come to his home, they'd better shoot him.

When officers arrived, the found Rudisill to be agitated.  Rudisill went into a house and came out with his hands in his pockets.  Police asked him to take his hands out, but he refused.

Police say Rudisill then charged at them with his hand in his jacket.  Officers opened fire, striking him several times.

Rudisill was armed with a wrench at the time of the shooting.  He was transported to Metro and is listed in fair condition.

Both Patrol Officer's Michael Volk and Robert Sweany are currently off on administrative leave.

19 Action News has learned Rudisill was recently released from prison.  He was released on September 19 after being ordered to spend a year behind bars for a probation violation. Reporter Ed Gallek is looking into why Rudisill was released early.
