TPD searching for suspect of on-going scam

Posted: Updated:

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Police want to warn the public of an on-going scam after an 84-year old woman became the suspect's most recent victim.

TPS have surveillance video from the victim's own security camera of a man walking to the door and asking for a drink of water. Once the man was inside the house, police say he locked the woman in her utilities closet.

Seconds later, two more individuals walked inside the home and made away with $1000 cash.

TPD have been getting reports of this scam for the last ten months. Police are hoping someone can identify these men who drive a white Ford Edge. The car has no front license plate.

Police want the suspects caught and surveillance video just became their biggest piece of evidence.

"A lot of these people are pretty crafty, they call them con-men for a reason. They get your confidence, they tell a good story, they play on your sympathy and you know, people are just trying to be good neighbors and good people and so they let down their guard a little bit and the next thing you know is you have three guys in your house and they're ransacking it," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.
