Editorial: Our Tax Dollars at Work

(WOIO) -

Well, if you and I ran our family budgets like most free-spending government agencies do theirs, we'd end our days holding a tin cup on public square.

Case in point.  The Cuyahoga County Port Authority spent $350,000 of our tax dollars to hire a consultant to help solve a dredging problem that threatens to affect shipping on Cleveland's Lakefront.

The consultants conclusion: there is no crisis, as long as the Port Authority implements a simple fix that it turns out the board was fully aware of two years ago but ignored.  Well, multiply that episode by a million or so from sea to shining sea and is it any wonder that the nation itself is some 16 trillion in debt.

Write and let me know what you think.  I'm Bill Applegate.
