Kent students write congress for answers

Posted: Updated:
KENT, OH (WOIO) -

"The approval rating for Congress is at an all time low," explains one student.

And this expressive group of Kent State journalism students seems to have figured out why. They sent letters to Ohio's 20 members of Congress asking them to think critically and act responsibly on the issue of Healthcare.

"We wanted to know what studies of world healthcare systems the members found most informative," stated another student.

They didn't use email or the phone. They went old school -- they sent certified letters.

Two of them didn't make it, so they emailed copies.

"Neither Senator Sherrod Brown or Rob Portman responded," said a student.

On the house side only three-of-18 responded.  Congressman Steve Latourette, who say he's leaving the House because of its uncooperative nature these days, sent copies.  Congressman Jim Renacci's office said it didn't understand their request.

"Speaker John Boehner's office did call and said it does have information but said it could not share any of it," said another student.

Our members of Congress have, apparently, forgotten for whom they work -- we the people. The Gallup Poll says the Congressional rating hit an all-time low of 10% back in February.
