After winning a one-goal game over the Oklahoma City Barons on Friday night, the Lake Erie Monsters (1-1-0-0) fell by a goal, 3-2, to Oklahoma City (1-1-0-0) on Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.  Justin Schultz netted the eventual game-winner for the Barons with 3:34 remaining in regulation.  Paul Carey scored his first professional goal, and Mitchell Heard registered his first professional point in the Monsters loss, and Calvin Pickard suffered his first professional defeat in the game.

After Oklahoma City's Josh Green and Martin Marincin scored in the first period on what were unfortunate bounces for the Monsters, Tyson Barrie put the Monsters on the board in the second period with a power play goal on a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 13:22; his first of the year.  Brad Malone and Sean Sullivan assisted on Barrie's goal.

Carey scored his first of the year and of his pro career in the third period when he followed a Heard shot off the rush from in-close.  The rebound goal tied the game on the power play for the Monsters, and was also assisted by Mark Olver at 14:04.

Schultz scored on a wrist shot from the top of the left circle with 3:34 remaining to seal the game for Oklahoma City.

Pickard (0-1-0) stopped 29 of 32 shots.  Olivier Roy stopped 37 pucks in net for the Barons, and improves to 1-0-0.

The Monsters continue their opening weekend with the first road game of the season on Sunday when they visit the defending Western Conference Champion Toronto Marlies at 3:00 PM.  All of the action can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
