TOLEDO, OH (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) - Three University of Toledo officers and a student were hurt in an altercation early Monday.

Police say a drug overdose may have been the cause. They say officers had to restrain student Javonn Arkel Morgan, 18, in one of the residence halls.

Students who were right across the hall when everything happened say around 2 a.m. they heard screaming. Shortly after, police officers told them to shut their doors.

Campus police were dispatched to a call involving a combative student in the 1700 block of West Rocket Drive. First, police say Morgan assaulted a desk attendant before heading down the hall in a violent frenzy, assaulting several other residents. Police were forced to try to defend themselves and restrain Morgan.

Police say when they arrived, the situation was so intense they needed back up from Toledo and Ottawa Hills Police to take Morgan into custody. Morgan injured three campus police officers before he was able to be subdued. Police say they have reason to believe he was high on some sort of illegal drug.

The situation escalated to a point where an officer and a student were taken out on stretchers. Both were loaded into ground ambulances and taken to local hospitals. No word yet on their conditions.

Morgan has been arrested and remains in the Lucas County Jail. He has also been kicked out of his dorm.

He faces three felony assault charges.
