Police: Stabbing victim confronted suspect for stealing meds

CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A suspect is behind bars after a stabbing in Clermont County.

It happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of Crane Schoolhouse Road and SR 222 in Monroe Township.

Police say Matthew Gerde, 31, confronted Scott Benjamin, 35, who allegedly stole medications from Gerde's mother.

An altercation ensued and Benjamin stabbed Gerde with a single bladed knife that was recovered in a field near the scene of the altercation.

Gerde was found in the parking lot of Bantam Church with a large laceration on his chest and what appeared to be a puncture wound to his back. Gerde was flown via AirCare to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Benjamin was taken to the Clermont County Jail on charges of felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
