Large water main break in downtown Cincinnati

Posted: Updated:
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A massive water main break at Mehring Way and Pete Rose way shut down several downtown streets Sunday.

A 36-inch transmission water main burst around 3 p.m. Sunday, causing the road to buckle. The main break has caused extensive damage on Pete Rose Way at the intersection of Eggleston Avenue. As a result, some traffic restrictions will be likely through Wednesday morning.

One eastbound lane of Pete Rose Way at Eggleston Avenue will be open to traffic. Westbound Pete Rose Way will be closed at the intersection of Eggleston Avenue, however drivers can turn right onto Eggleston to get downtown. One southbound lane of Eggleston will be open. Motorists can only turn left onto Pete Rose Way from southbound Eggleston.

No businesses or homes lost water during the incident.

A Waterworks spokesperson says they don't know what caused the break, but are continuing to investigate it.
