FirstEnergy Contributes $25,000 to American Red Cross of Cleveland

The FirstEnergy Foundation has contributed $25,000 to the American Red Cross of Greater Cleveland to support relief efforts for residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

"Hurricane Sandy had a devastating effect on our region and our crews are working around the clock to restore service to those who remain without power," said John Skory, regional president of The Illuminating Company.

"We're glad to provide assistance to the American Red Cross of Greater Cleveland so it can help those who need it."

 Tens of thousands of customers are still without power in Northeast Ohio Friday.

  • Cuyahoga County - 57,468 customers are without power
  • Ashtabula County - 210 customers are without power
  • Geauga County - 553 customers are without power
  • Lorain County - 1,770 customers are without power
  • Medina County - less than 5 customers are without power
  • Summit CountY - 10 customers are without power

Crews continue to work around the clock to repair downed power lines and blown transformers.

More than 200,000 First Energy customers lost power after Super Storm Sandy ripped through Northeast Ohio.

First Energy officials tell 19 Action News it is important customers call their automated line if their power is out - (888) 544-4877.
