Con men posing as utility workers, reports in 3 towns

Posted: Updated:
PARMA HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Parma Heights Police are sounding a warning about con men posing as utility crews.  An elderly couple there chased three bad guys out of their home.  One even had some sort of ID.

The victims barely speak English.

One guy showed up and said he was from the water department.  The victims say he looked legit.  He then went into the basement and turned the water on.

Meantime, two other guys walked in saying they were from the power company.  The homeowners got a bad feeling and when the woman went to call 9-1-1, one of the intruders knocked the phone out of her hand.  She screamed and they sped off.

Parma Heights Police say they've heard of similar trouble in Fairview Park and North Olmsted.  A concern especially with legitimate utility crews still out dealing with the impact of Super Storm Sandy.

Police recommend if a crew comes to your door, call the utility company or call police to check them out.
