AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Police were called to a house in the 700 block of Eastland Avenue to check on the welfare of a 2-year-old girl.

When police arrived, a female answered the door, and officers could smell a strong chemical odor.

Officers were given consent by the resident to check the house where they located a working meth lab in the basement, including lab bottles, acid gas generators, ammonium nitrates fuel bottles and digital scales.

The female, Melissa Brown, 22, was charged with Illegal Manufacturing of Methamphetamines, Illegal Assembly of Chemicals, Endangering Children and Possession of Criminal Tools and booked into the Summit County Jail.

The two year old child was removed from the house and placed in the custody of the Summit County Children's Services. The child was then taken to Children's Hospital for an evaluation.
