PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Eeyore, the starving dog rescued in Portage County, is making strides.

According to the Portage Animal Protective League, Eeyore has already gained about 8 pounds. The vet staff says the dog, Boxer/Mastiff mix, is now eating and drinking, but remains on IV fluids and antibiotics. Overall, they say, his health is headed in the right direction.

The Portage Animal Protective League helped the County Dog Warden save Eeyore on Tuesday afternoon.

Eeyore was so thin and emaciated that he couldn't stand or walk on his own. And his body temperature was 92 degrees (normal temperature is 101-102 degrees). He was hypothermic and every bone in his body was showing. At this temperature, he was close to death. He weighed only 47 pounds.

Portage Animal Protective League is happy Eeyore is making progress, but says there is still a long road to his recovery. They are appreciative to those making donations.
