Police make arrest in deadly Veterans Day shooting

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Police have arrested a 23-year old in the shooting death of Derrick Henderson.

Homicide Detectives arrested Donzell Steele of Cleveland.  Steele was arrested Tuesday morning in the 9600 block of Kempton Avenue.

Henderson, 19, also of Cleveland, was shot on November 11 near E. 93rd and Empire Avenue. 

Officers responding to the scene were unable to locate a victim when they arrived.  A short time later, police received a call for an auto that struck a pole at 12307 Chesterfield Avenue.

When officers arrived at that scene, they located a car with one passenger and a minivan with two passengers.  One of the passengers of the minivan, Henderson had been shot in the neck.  He died at the scene.

According to police the driver of the minivan was attempting to take Henderson to the hospital when he crashed on Chesterfield Avenue.

Steele is currently being held in the Division's Central Prison Unit awaiting charges.
