Victim Identified:18-year-old fatally shot in Akron

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

An investigation is underway after a man was fatally shot in Akron late Monday night.

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Deshawn Dwayne Smith, was shot by an unknown person while sitting in a car in the 600 block of East Avenue around 10:15 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A front seat passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was shot in the shoulder and transported to Akron General Medical Center where her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

No suspect(s) have been identified at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Akron Police Department, Detective Bureau at (330) 375-2490. Callers can remain anonymous.
