A Cleveland homeowner shot and killed a burglar early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on Portage Avenue.
Police say the homeowner - an older man - was asleep on the couch when he heard the suspect kicking in the screen door.
The homeowner got his gun, saw the suspect was armed with a knife and shot him once while the suspect was trying to break down the door.
Neighbors say the homeowner is a guy named "Mike". They also say "Mike" owns several properties in the area and he is often the victim of vandals.
"He's got that house and three more on this street and he is just protecting his property," said one neighbor.
The home where the shooting took place appears abandoned and we did not see a door kicked in. So what if Mike, fed up with thieves, concealed himself inside the abandoned home and waited for the vandals to strike again. Police are investigating the possibility.
The 43-year-old suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
