AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A 53-year-old homeless man arrested for robbing an Akron bank.

It happened at the Fifth Third Bank on South Main Street Wednesday around 5 p.m.

Employees reported the suspect entered the bank and walked over to the deposit/withdrawal counter and wrote a note. The suspect then walked over to a teller, handed them the note and demanded money. The suspect told the teller he had a gun, but no gun was seen. The teller handed the suspect an unreported amount of money and the suspect fled.

The suspect was located several hours later in an apartment at 263 South Main Street. He had a crack pipe and crack in his possession.

Detectives arrested Richard Cooper, 53, who is homeless.

He was charged with Robbery, Drug Abuse Crack/Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and booked into the Summit County Jail.
