The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent utility player Nate Spears to a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to 2013 Major League spring training camp.

Spears, 27, spent most of the 2012 season with the Pawtucket Red Sox where he hit .240 with 16 doubles, 4 triples, 10 homers and 38 RBI's in 108 games. He appeared at every position on the diamond with the exception of pitcher, catcher and center field.  He also played in 3 games with Boston in April after Jacoby Ellsbury was injured.

The left-handed hitter began his professional career in 2003 with Baltimore and played four seasons in the Cubs Player Development system from 2006-09.

Also today the Indians outrighted RHP Fabio Martinez to the Triple-A Columbus roster.   Martinez was designated for assignment on November 20
